Polifonie International Music Masterclass

Associazione Culturale Polifonie organizes the first edition of the Polifonie International Music Masterclass, a high-profile didactic project dedicated to young talented musicians and university students from all over the world.

The idea was born thanks to the persistent desire of Associazione Culturale Polifonie to make room to young people and culture, offering a High Music Specialization Course to young talents from all over the world, as well as concerts open to the locals, in order to support the spread of culture and music also through this experience in Como’s territory.

The main aim of the Polifonie International Music Masterclass is to create a didactic-cultural hub and transform it into a landmark for young musicians from all over the world within the coming years. Inviting the most eminent professors and artists from the international musical scene, we would like to transform Como into a land of encounters, passion, creativity and exchange.

This year’s High Specialization Music Masterclass is dedicated to the Cello and appointed to the capable hands of Matias de Oliveira Pintoa Brazilian, worldwide renowned, musician based in Germany. It will take place from October, 29th to November, 5th 2022.

The Polifonie International Music Masterclass will officially be inaugurated on November 1, 2022 with a Cello Ensemble concert in the luxurious venues of Villa D’Este in Cernobbio. This first edition of the Masterclasses will come to an end on November, 5th, at Villa Olmo’s Salone in Como, with the professors’ concert, included in the program of Como Contemporary Festival – International Festival of Contemporary Music and Other Arts.

The classes will take place in Cernobbio (CO), a town next to Como, at the Sala Polifunzionale of the Cernobbio municipality and in the museum house Villa Bernasconi, where, on November 3rd, an entire day of open classes will take place and where the students will perform in a concert open to the public a program based on the cello solo repertoire, with a focus on contemporary repertoire.

Two Prize-concerts will be awarded to the most deserving student, chosen by a jury chaired by the professor himself:

  • A concerto for cello and orchestra, offered by Associazione Culturale Polifonie, which will take place in Como in the 2023 season, in collaboration with the Franz Terraneo Orchestra (repertoire for cello and chamber orchestra)
  • A cello solo recital, kindly offered by the Fondazione La Società dei Concerti di Milano, which will be included in the 2023/2024 Season.

During their staying on Como’s territory, the students will be welcomed in the town of Cernobbio. The small distance between practicing spots, concerts venues and hosting structures will allow them to completely focus on the work scheduled for this intensive week of music.

The inauguration concert of the Masterclass will take place in the town of Cernobbio as well, when the young talents will perform an engaging program for Cello Ensemble in the luxurious rooms of Villa D’Este, a world-renowned hotel, considered to be one of the most beautiful and important hotels in the world.

The "Corpo Senza Organi" exhibition's vernissage is a big success

Yesterday’s vernissage of Marco Frigerio’s Corpo Senza Organi (Body without Organs) and Alessandro Perini’s Fossili Sonori (Sound Fossils) exhibition reopened Como Contemporary Festival – International Contemporary Music and other Arts Festival, was a big success.

Many people attended and could ask questions and talk directly with the artists and listen to their conference. Watching the artists discuss, stimulating each other and asking questions one another, in a continuous intertwining of thoughts and arts that captured the audience was really interesting.

The exhibition will be open until December 12, at the Silk Museum (Museo della Seta) in Como. On Dec. 12 the finissage will take place with a contemporary music concert performed by Appassionato Ensemble, which will cover the finalist scores of the 5th International Composition Competition organized by the Association (Associazione Culturale Polifonie).

Como Contemporary Festival reopens with the exhibition "Body without Organs" by Marco Frigerio and "Sound Fossils" by Alessandro Perini

Como Contemporary Festival reopens its doors after the summer break with the photography exhibition Corpo Senza Organi (Body Without Organs) by Marco Frigerio and the sound art works by Alessandro Perini ( Fossili Sonori, Sound Fossils )

he exhibition will be hosted by the Museo della Seta (Silk museum) in Como from December 1 till December 12 and will also welcome the finalists if the 5th edition of the International Composition Competition Appassionato Ensemble. The final concert and the award ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 12, at 5 p.m., with the presence of tbe jury chaired by Alessandro Solbiati.

During this final evening the art works on display will be accompanied by the sounds of a contemporary music concert , as it is an established tradition of this festival, whose aim is to be a place and time for socializing and sharing, when music blends with and contaminates other art forms.

During the exhibition it will be possible to view the works that represent the foundation of Frigerio's research in the last 15 years, therefore his works "informed" by the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze (1. Body without Organs - Probe Heads; Cartographies, Apparatus of Capture) , the works linked to that aspect of his research aimed at specifically redefining the limits of the photographic language (Unthinkable Ethnographies), his Crucifixions will also be exhibited, made with large-format Polaroids (20x25cm), in which the artist investigates that neutral, void and naked space in which life and death breathe together, and also will be exhibited the large-scale prints of the Working Class series, the artist's first work aimed at investigating the effects of capitalism in modern society...

The exhibition also includes works by the Como-born artist Alessandro Perini - who moved 12 years ago to Malmö, Sweden - whose works range from instrumental and electronic music to audiovisual and light-based works, net-art, land-art and vibration-based works, recently focusing on custom-built machines. For Como Contemporary Festival Perini will show two of his Sound Fossils, clay artifacts the shape of which is derived from sonic / geological phenomena.

All of this is made possible thanks to the contributes of Regione Lombardia, of the PIC Piano Integrato della Cultura “Un Tesoro di Territorio” – a biennial program of the cultural district of Lake Como, funded by Regione Lombardia and coordinated and supported by Camera di Commercio di Como-Lecco -, of Comune di Como (Como Municipality) and of Cassa Rurale ed Artigiana di Cantù, our official sponsor for this year.

Opening time: every day from 2pm to 6pm (closed on Mondays)

Where: Como Silk Museum, Via Castelnuovo, 9

Vernissage December 1st, 5.00 pm - Opening of the exhibition (free entry) and conference with the artists
